essential decorative materials

Raw materials and minerals

Organic shapes have been on the rise for several seasons. This year, we are pushing this return to natural lines to the extreme, adopting barely worked materials.

Natural stone is one of the essential materials of the season – especially for furniture. Whether it is a question of making an entire table or simply its legs, we favor a barely cut stone. The principle: to have a functional part, while preserving as much as possible the original characteristics of the material.

As for vases and lights too, we like barely shaped creations, which retain their raw and very authentic character.

The use of natural stone becomes a pretext to play with textures, paying particular attention to details. For this hanging pot, we bet for example on the association of a granular stoneware with very soft cotton ropes.

Wood from every angle

This year, wood promises to be more present than ever in our interiors. Light or dark essence: it’s very simple, everything is allowed!

Rough wood remains a safe bet. Sometimes a side table, sometimes a stool, or even a pedestal to display a piece of craftsmanship: the end of the sofa is a must have. For more authenticity, we dare to DIY.

Light Wood

Somewhat roughed up for several seasons – blame it on the emergence of the Mid Century trend! – light wood is making a comeback this year. In the bedroom, in the kitchen or in the living room, we love it for its softness, its naturalness and its simplicity.

If we fall in love with light wood again, there is no question of avoiding the darker species, such as walnut, which we readily associate with leather.

If there is one room in which wood takes center stage this year, it is undoubtedly the kitchen. To highlight it, we associate it with natural stone or waxed concrete for a very urban style, or we adopt earthenware or zellige for a bohemian or country chic style.

This year, wood is so present in our interiors that it dresses everything from lighting to small appliances.

Recycled materials

A healthier interior that is more respectful of the planet: the trend that began several seasons ago constitutes one of the major trends of 2022. It is true that many brands and designers have embarked on a search for recycled materials and recyclable, and what came under experimentation is now tending to become widespread.

Recycled Plastic

Recycled plastic is one of the essential materials of the moment. We particularly like it in contemporary interiors.

Bamboo

Very popular in the Scandinavian interior or in a decoration of the japandi type, bamboo continues to gain ground in our interiors. It has also become the material of choice for many big names in decoration, starting with the inevitable Ikea.

If bamboo is appreciated for large pieces of furniture – such as shelves or kitchen furniture – it is even more essential for accessories: mirrors, storage boxes and, above all, lighting.

Recycled facades in the kitchen

In the kitchen, it is the facades in recycled melamine panels that make us fall in love. Their asset is their creativity: textures and colors, they are available to infinity.

This year, metal is also being recycled, and we love both XXL pieces and small decorations.

A touch of metal

We had forgotten it a little, but here it is again which is emerging: metal, and more specifically steel, reinvests our interiors.

It is more particularly in the living room that steel takes center stage. And the item to shop is of course the sofa!

Chrome steel

This year is marked by the return of the 1990s, which we take pleasure in revisiting. Driven by this trend, chrome steel is making a remarkable reappearance.

For an aesthetic softer than chrome steel, but just as trendy, we fall for painted metal. Sober or trendy colors, it doesn’t matter… as long as the finish is matte!

And always…

While some trends are emerging this year, others are only being confirmed.

On the tableware side, sandstone seems to have established itself definitively. Now, however, it is preferred when it is slightly textured.

The Wool Rug

This year again, wool is responsible for bringing a cocooning touch to the house. The part that we cannot do without is the carpet. We are particularly fond of artisanal pieces, which we preferably choose tufted or with buckles.

Wicker

From furniture to accessories, wicker remains one of the most trendy materials of the moment. In 2022, however, a natural finish is preferred.

Jute Rug

A time reserved for the bohemian or ethnic chic interior, the jute rug has gained its stripes, and it is now one of the basics that we could not do without.

Water hyacinth

Basketry pieces are still very trendy. If we fall for a wide variety of natural fibers, we melt for those with a strong character, such as water hyacinth.

Among the natural fibers to be reckoned with this year, there is a little news, which is increasingly present in our interiors: raffia.

Lin

On the bedroom side, linen is officially leading the way. And if we love plain washed or crumpled linen has become a classic, we cannot resist printed adornments.
