Energy from Russia: We Can Afford a Gas Stop – Economy

The question should not be how dependent Germany is on Russian oil and gas – but how we can manage to use less energy. There are quite a few ideas for this.

Economics Minister Robert Habeck comes back from the Gulf with good news: The federal government is reporting initial successes in its efforts to make Germany more independent of gas from Russia: Things could get tight again this winter, but then we would get out of it. That’s nice to hear and makes sense in any case. Unfortunately, the discussion often boils down to precisely this question: How do the Germans manage not to suffer too much from the upheavals resulting from Putin’s attack on Ukraine? What sanctions can they even afford – and when? This shortening is firstly morally questionable and secondly fatal in substance.
