Using an online calculator, all citizens can immediately calculate whether they are entitled to hardship support to cover the sharp rise in energy costs. “The federal and state governments have agreed on the details of a hardship regulation for private households. The regulation applies to the use of energy sources that are not connected to the grid, such as heating oil, gas or pellets. After long negotiations, we are on the home straight,” said Bavaria’s Social and Labor Minister Ulrike Sharp in Berlin. Appropriate applications could soon be submitted. The prerequisite for receiving hardship aid is that the costs are more than twice the national reference price, the ministry said. If that is the case, 80 percent of the additional costs would be reimbursed – at least 100 euros per private household.
