The end of recess has been whistled. The National Basketball League (LNB) and the Players Union (SNB) have reached an agreement to allow the final phase of the French championship to be maintained. The two organizations announced this news Thursday after several days of negotiations.
The SNB had, through the voice of its president Amara Sy, launched a strike notice for the players for the quarter-finals of Jeep Elite, because of the hellish rates imposed for several weeks, in order to catch up with the delay between the end of October and the beginning of March, due to the health crisis.
“A trying end to the season”
A first meeting to try to find a way out of the crisis took place Monday at the headquarters of the LNB between Amara Sy and the president of the League, Alain Béral. “Several proposals were made by the president of La LNB, which were relayed to the players by Amara Sy. This consultation led to an agreement between the League and the Players Union after another day of discussions, ”the LNB announced in a press release without specifying the proposals.
Player representation in LNB forums was on the table, along with a postponed resumption of Elite’s 2021/22 season. “The players, who have experienced a difficult end to the season, are satisfied to have been able to benefit from attentive listening from the National Basketball League and its President, and consider the proposals made to them as real progress in their relationship with the League, ”said Amara Sy.
“An event that promises to be very spectacular”
The title of champion of France 2020-2021 will be awarded at the end of a final phase: the quarter-finals will be played in a match on June 20 and 21 on the floor of the first four of the regular season, and a Final 4 will be organized in Rouen on June 24 and 26. “We are satisfied to have been able to find a positive outcome to this situation through constructive dialogue, and are very happy to end this very special season with an event that promises to be very spectacular, and that we owe it to ourselves to offer to all the basketball fans in France ”, rejoiced Alain Béral.
The posters of the quarter-finals are not yet all known. But the leader, Dijon, will welcome Orleans (8th), when Asvel (2nd) will face Le Mans (7th). The last four qualified are Monaco, Strasbourg, Bourg-en-Bresse and Boulogne-Levallois. But the 3rd place is not yet played between Monegasques and Alsaciens.
