The tragedy occurred shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday evening near Calais. Firefighters intervened to put out a fire on a freight wagon which contained paper, reports the daily la Voice of the North.
A fire whose origin could be human. Contacted by our colleagues, the SNCF indicates that “people near the rails tried to get on the freight train but the electrocution of one of them caused a fire to break out on the wagon”. Despite rescue efforts, the person died in the fire. According to information from Voix du Nord, it is a man, a migrant whose origin and age are currently unknown. On the other hand, another man, aged 16 and of Sudanese origin, who presented superficial injuries, was treated by doctors and the police.
