Bavaria: Several injured in May Day brawls – Bavaria

On the night of May 1st there were several clashes with injuries at festivals and celebrations in Bavaria. Some of those involved were drunk, as the police reports show.

At least four people were injured, one of them seriously, during May celebrations in the Donau-Ries district. In Rain, four young men got into an argument, one of them was seriously injured and another was slightly injured, a police spokesman said on Wednesday. The 21-year-old seriously injured man was taken to hospital.

In Marxheim, a drunk 47-year-old is said to have hit two others in the face with his fist – a 49-year-old was moderately injured and a 33-year-old was slightly injured. Because the 47-year-old was aggressive towards the police, he was temporarily arrested and taken into police custody.

In the Miltenberg district, four young people were slightly injured after an escalated argument at a maypole festival. A group of ten men is said to have hit and kicked four people between the ages of 21 and 24 in Wörth am Main. The attackers then fled.

On the actual May Day, a falling maypole in Amorbach injured three children and a woman. They were hit by the branches of the 25-meter-high tree, police said on Wednesday. The children between the ages of five and twelve and the 52-year-old woman were treated by the fire department and taken to nearby hospitals.

According to local police, the maypole was to be erected using heavy equipment. Shortly before the tree was erected, it tipped sideways and injured the four people. The police started investigations.
