These will be costly winter months for German households. Nationwide, more than 300 regional gas suppliers have announced that they will increase their prices in December or January. According to the comparison portal Verivox, gas is around 23 percent more expensive on average. And many consumers will also have to pay significantly more for electricity in the coming months. Here the prices rise at the turn of the year for 134 basic suppliers, in December for five electricity companies. On average, electricity is 7.4 percent more expensive. At the same time, 17 providers are reducing the electricity price by an average of 2.4 percent.
