According to post-election polls, the conservative party of former Prime Minister Borissov is in the lead in the elections in Bulgaria. Only a good third of those entitled to vote cast their vote. Forming a government will be difficult.
The pro-Western, bourgeois opposition party GERB led by former Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov is in the lead after the parliamentary elections in Bulgaria. According to post-election polls, she received about 25 percent of the votes. The party “We continue the change” (PP) of the liberal Prime Minister Kiril Petkov, who was ousted in June, came to around 19 percent.
The three parties of the last governing coalition of PP, Socialists and the conservative-liberal-green alliance DB would come together according to the information at a good 37.2 percent. Up to eight parties could move into parliament. Among them is again the pro-Russian and nationalist Wasraschdane (rebirth).
In view of the predicted balance of power, the formation of a government became complicated. Until the new government is in place, official business is to be managed by an interim cabinet.
In June, Kiril Petkov’s government was overthrown by a vote of no confidence. Petkov accused Moscow of promoting this with a “hybrid war” after Bulgaria refused to pay Russian gas bills in rubles and expelled Russian diplomats.
