Dolls make the atomic bomb… #Barbenheimer will (really) become a movie

Moviegoers are already stamping their feet with impatience… The hashtag #Barbenheimercontraction between the comedy inspired by the famous Barbie doll and the feature film Oppenheimer, dedicated to the designer of the atomic bomb, will give birth to a (real) film. The Full Moon Features studio, a production company specializing in B series, has officially announced the release of a film in streaming at the end of 2023.

The #Barbenheimer phenomenon emerged on social networks this summer, during the simultaneous release at the end of July of the two blockbusters Barbie by Greta Gerwig and Oppenheimer by Christopher Nolan. The hashtag quickly spread, accompanied by the appearance of “memes”, graphic montages of sometimes dubious taste, showing in particular the heroes of the film Barbie in front of a mushroom cloud. But no one could have imagined that the fake trailers mixing the two scenarios would actually lead to the making of a real movie.

“Their mission? Bring down the patriarchy once and for all! »

But what will we talk about Barbenheimer ? The synopsis of the film, partly revealed on the site JoBlo, already makes Internet users dream. “Deep in Dollsville, a group of exasperated female dolls, led by the brilliant Dr. Barbenheimer, are building an atomic bomb. Their mission? Bring down the patriarchy once and for all! But as the battle of the sexes escalates, will Barbenheimer and her band of beauties end up blowing up more things than they bargained for? “.

The Full Moon studio, which specializes in low-budget horror films and parody films, has started teasing the film by sharing a first poster. He also clarified that Barbenheimer will mix “comedy, drama, action and Armageddon”. It is not yet known who will direct the film, or who wrote the screenplay, but the film could be released on the Prime Video streaming platform at the end of the year.

Barbenheimer isn’t the first movie born out of a social media joke that went viral. The film LeafMan, born from a joke on YouTube between Pierre Niney, McFly and Carlito, will soon be broadcast on Prime Video. It will feature a superhero, FeuilleMan, who “is the weight of a leaf, and who throws himself from the top of buildings”.
