Lawyers probably want to dissuade Trump from press conference

After the explosive charges in Georgia, the former US President announced, as usual, with a lot of enthusiasm, a public “irrefutable report” about the electoral fraud in the state, which he had complained about. This project is said to have put his group of lawyers on alert.
He is said to have been part of a criminal election conspiracy that tried to tip the outcome of the Georgia presidential election in 2020 in his favor – this is the latest indictment with a total of 19 counts against former US President Donald Trump, on which he is involved responded to a big announcement. Next Monday, he announced on his platform Truth Social, he wants to present a “large, complex, detailed but irrefutable report on voter fraud” at his golf club in Bedminister to refute the allegations against him. But a report by US broadcaster ABC now doubts whether this press conference will even take place.
Because, as ABC reports, citing unnamed sources from Trump’s environment, some of his lawyers have strongly advised against such an appearance. The reason: Trump’s dubious allegations of voter fraud would only aggravate his legal problems, they say. His legal team is said to have even suggested the complete cancellation of the event.
The ex-president faces four charges, but Georgia’s election interference charge is particularly serious. Because the responsible prosecutor Fani Willis also leads the so-called Rico law. This makes it possible for the prosecution to take action against several defendants at the same time as part of a criminal organization. In addition to Trump, 18 other people have been charged, including his former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows and Trump’s former attorney Rudy Giuliani. The law was originally enacted to combat mafia racketeering. There are long prison sentences. Willis said all of the defendants’ efforts had the “illegal aim” of helping Trump win another term as president.
Republicans clearly oppose Trump’s statement
Trump’s repeated, but never proven, allegations of irregularities in the 2020 presidential election are now increasingly being met with opposition within the Republican Party. Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp wrote on X, formerly Twitter, noting, “The Georgia election wasn’t stolen.” He also received support from Florida governor Ron DesSantis, who is courting Trump for the presidential candidacy, and from Trump’s former vice president, Mike Pence.
According to reports from the US broadcasters CNN and NBC, information about the jury involved in the trial is already circulating on the Internet. Accordingly, the names, addresses, photos and accounts of several alleged jury members are said to have been published on right-wing websites.
