District of Starnberg: Storm keeps fire brigades in suspense – Starnberg

Due to severe thunderstorms, strong gusts of wind and heavy downpours, the fire brigades went out at least 40 times on Monday evening in the Fünfseenland to eliminate the storm damage. The first operation was shortly after 10 p.m. in Machtlfing: a tree crashed into the power line there and also damaged a house. This also resulted in a power failure in Machtlfing, reports Anton Graf, spokesman for the Starnberg District Fire Inspectorate. In addition, the fire brigades in Bachhausen, Berg, Höhenrain, Kempfenhausen, Feldafing, Tutzing, Herrsching, Breitbrunn and Pöcking as well as the weirs in Maising, Oberalting, Steinebach, Starnberg and Söcking were alerted to operations. Branches and fallen trees had to be removed and flooded basements pumped out. Streets were flooded, and cars and buildings were damaged, reports the district fire inspection.

The Berger fire brigade received a fire alarm around 10:10 p.m.: They had been called to the Hotel Leoni and had to clear broken branches from the road on the way there on Assenbucher Straße. There they also had to secure a listed villa with a tarpaulin, says Berger commander Bastian Sandbichler. Because of the thunderstorm, among other things, the state road between Höhenrain and Münsing and also between Aufhausen and Höhenrain were closed; two RVO buses therefore had to interrupt their journey for a while.

Due to the storm damage, Lenné-Park Feldafing and Roseninsel were closed to visitors on Tuesday. The Bavarian Palace Administration, which is currently recording the extent of the storm damage, has also stopped ferry traffic to the island. Roseninsel and Park are now to be secured against further thunderstorm damage.

The rescue workers on Lake Starnberg were also required late in the evening: A sailor was missing from relatives, who, despite very poor visibility, was found relatively quickly on his boat on the lake between Seeseiten and Ambach by the water rescue service and rescue divers from the DLRG Pöcking-Starnberg and was towed to a buoy at his own request. After that, the emergency services discovered a capsized dinghy without a crew that got stuck in the mud, according to Walter Kohlenz from the German Life Saving Society.

The thunderstorm also led to traffic disruptions on the Garmisch Autobahn (A 95). Because to the south, four uprooted trees had fallen on the road between Schäftlarn and Wolfratshausen and partly towered up to the central barrier, reports the highway police. This area of the A 95 was closed for almost half an hour because the trees had to be cut down and removed. In the opposite direction, leaves, twigs and dirt clogged the drains. The left lane was flooded, the water was up to 30 centimeters high. According to the police, there was only one minor accident with no injuries. A total of 62 firefighters and the motorway maintenance department were deployed on this section of the A 95.
