This Saturday, upon his return from Nouméa, in New Caledonia, the President of the Republic said he was “ready to debate” with Marine Le Pen ahead of the European election vote which is to be held on June 9. At ParisianEmmanuel Macron assured that such a confrontation was necessary given the stakes of this election “where part of the destiny of France is at stake”.
“The ball is in his court,” said the Head of State to the head of the RN, leaving the latter with the two weeks remaining before the vote to accept or decline the debate. Emmanuel Macron’s initiative does not come in reaction to the Bardella vs Attal debate, which he did not even see, but could help his champion, Valérie Hayer, to grab a few points in polls which are particularly unfavorable to him.
the RN “changes his mind all the time”
To our colleagues, Emmanuel Macron explains that above all he wants to “wake up” the French in the face of a National Rally which “changes its mind all the time”. On Europe in particular: “They wanted to leave the euro. Then they said they would not apply the treaties. There, they don’t say anything about that anymore. It’s crazy,” criticizes the head of state.
While the number of candidates for this election is close to thirty, the president assumes that he will only propose the debate to the RN. “We have the adversaries that the people give us,” recognizes Emmanuel Macron who nevertheless insists that he “never believed in the polls”.
