19-year-old drives car into group of joggers: Three women seriously injured

Serious accident near Bielefeld: A car veers off the road and hits a group of joggers – three women are seriously injured. The police believe it was an accident. The driver is only 19 years old.

In Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock near Bielefeld in North Rhine-Westphalia, a 19-year-old driver drove into a group of joggers on Saturday. Three Women were seriously injured, said a police spokeswoman. “They were hit head-on.” One of the three women is believed to be in critical condition.

The three women, aged 45, 46 and 70, from Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock and Bielefeld were taken to hospitals. Fire engines and a rescue helicopter were deployed at the scene.

Cause of the accident still unclear

The five other members of the group of joggers were uninjured but were in shock and were being cared for, the spokeswoman said. The 19-year-old driver from Augustdorf was uninjured as of now. The windshield of his car was badly damaged. The car has been impounded.

The spokeswoman said that it was assumed that it was an accident. For reasons that are still unclear, the driver veered off the road to the left in a right-hand bend in a rural area. She could not say whether he was driving too fast. The “Westfalen-Blatt” newspaper had reported this.
