District of Munich – More than 1000 training positions vacant – District of Munich

The numbers are alarming: 1,097 training positions in the district of Munich are still vacant. That is 21 percent more than last year, according to a press release from the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) Munich and Upper Bavaria. This offer is offset by 449 unplaced applicants, according to the statistics from the employment agency at the end of June. Christoph Höhler, chairman of the Munich-Landkreis regional committee of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, calls it a “dilemma” that the training companies cannot find any applicants for their “valuable offer” of dual training with practice in the company and theoretical knowledge transfer in the vocational schools. He is critical of the development that more and more school leavers are tending towards academic training, especially since around a third of those starting their studies finish their studies prematurely and without a degree. “Practical vocational training could be a better start to working life for many young women and men,” saysLeifer. However, he sees the increasing shortage of skilled workers as a danger not only for companies, but also for society. Ultimately, the “major challenges of our time such as energy transition and climate neutrality” could not be achieved without skilled workers.
