Some friends have already taken part in a marathon. They put themselves under a lot of stress to do this. A friend got up every morning before her job in the home care service to do her jogging laps. There were also evening meetings with running groups, advice from a running coach, diets to gain and lose weight, protein shakes and much more. At meetings in the café, one was amazed, expressed admiration and inhaled the apple pie with cream while she sucked on a freshly squeezed orange juice. Of course it rattled in the brain too. Should we try that too? Maybe at least go jogging at all? Or drink a freshly squeezed juice from time to time?

We look forward to the next meeting with anticipation. One can report that one is a participant of at least one half marathon. The start was quite simple: Downloading the 2zero app, which calculates your personal CO₂ footprint after entering your harmless living and eating habits. With this app you can now participate in the Klimathon until October 30th. This climate competition via app is taking place in the district for the second time. The first time it took 42.195 days, adjusted for marathon mileage. This time it was shortened to a half marathon. “21 days together for the climate” is the motto. The communities of Aying, Aschheim, Brunnthal, Baierbrunn, Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn, Kirchheim, Neubiberg, Neuried, Pullach, Taufkirchen and Schäftlarn as well as the town of Unterschleißheim are taking part in the campaign. But private individuals can also participate. For example, you can join the Munich district community and choose a location, in this case Baierbrunn.

When you enter the data, you are confident that your own carbon footprint will be very low. But the result is 11.3 tons of carbon dioxide per year, which is just above the German average. 0.1 thanks to the use of public transport, but 5.2 through oil heating in the apartment building, 3.2 through eating a mixed diet including meat. Under “My Achievements” there are zero points for the time being. That needs to change, and that’s through taking part in challenges. In the first week, these were in the area of ​​mobility and leisure time, which unfortunately was missed. This week is about nutrition and consumption. There are definitely points that can be scored, for example by shopping without packaging, using oat milk and eating all the food that would otherwise end up in the garbage. It could be a bit stressful, but at least not as strenuous as jogging. And freshly squeezed juice is also allowed.
