District of Munich – Fewer mini jobs due to Corona – District of Munich

During the pandemic, the number of mini-jobs in the Munich district has fallen significantly. In the middle of last year there were around 44,100 jobs on a 450-euro basis in the district, according to the Food-Genuss-Gaststätten (NGG) union – that’s 1,600 fewer than two years earlier (a drop of three percent). According to the NGG, the hospitality industry is particularly affected: around 1,300 mini-jobs were lost there in the same period – a slump of 30 percent. The NGG relies on figures from the Federal Employment Agency.

“450-euro workers are among the main losers in the pandemic. From the kitchen help in the restaurant to the saleswoman at the bakery counter – many mini-jobbers live in constant fear of being fired. They are not entitled to unemployment benefits or short-time work benefits.” , criticizes Tim Lünnemann, Managing Director of the NGG region Munich. The trade unionist warns that even more people could slip into such insecure jobs in the future if the federal government, as agreed in the coalition agreement, raises the earnings limit for mini-jobs to 520 euros.
