Dieter Bohlen and the end of DSDS: review of the jury of the casting show

“Deutschland sucht den Superstar” has its most well-known juror back: As RTL confirms, Dieter Bohlen returns to the casting show. The anniversary season will be broadcast in 2023 – and it will also be the last, according to RTL.

“After two very successful decades, we will celebrate the show one last time. And Dieter Bohlen must not be missing for the grand finale. We have changed a lot at RTL, we stand for positive entertainment and we are sticking to that. We will now do that together with Dieter Bohlen also in ‘Deutschland sucht den Superstar’. We are very happy that he is there. It’s like usual among friends: sometimes a break is good. Together we’ll make a big, inspiring, positive last one in the coming year DSDS season,” says RTL entertainment boss Markus Küttner.

Dieter Bohlen comes back for the last season of DSDS

The comeback comes as a surprise, RTL only separated from Bohlen in March 2021 after 20 years. He had been chief judge on DSDS since the first season in 2001 and made the show his trademark with his flippant, often derogatory sayings. At the time, the broadcaster said they wanted to be more family-friendly. In the past season, the candidates were evaluated by Florian Silbereisen, the producer Toby Gad and the Dutch singer Ilse DeLange – who attracted a noticeably higher musical level and judged more gently. But the cuddle course didn’t go down well with the audience: the ratings continued to fall.

The pop titan is now looking forward to his return. “I always said: I had a great time at the station, I felt at home. That’s why I’m very happy to be back at DSDS. We’ll put on a hammer show and, I hope, everyone will be talking about it again . If music is your thing in life, please apply pronto, pronto, it’s the last time you can sing in front of the great master,” he says. It is not yet known who he will be on the jury with in the final season. The only thing that is certain is that Silbereisen and Co. will not be there.
