On Friday against Wales and next Tuesday in Iceland there is a clear goal for the German women’s national team: two wins are needed. This is the only way the DFB women can preserve their chance of qualifying for the Olympic football tournament in Paris next summer via the Nations League.

To get things in the right mood, even Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz attended the training session on Tuesday. “It was a special experience for me to be able to watch a little training. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the next game against Wales. There are great hopes associated with this, the Olympics are a very big topic,” said the 65-year-old.

After the 2-0 defeat at the start of the Nations League, the DFB team can no longer afford to make any mistakes.

Despite the pressure and the ongoing situation surrounding national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg, the mood in the team is relaxed and relaxed. This is shown by a quiz duel between Giulia Gwinn, Sarai Linder, Linda Dallmann and Janina Minge, which the association published on its YouTube channel.

DFB team: Gwinn doesn’t know Nations League opponents

In the “5-second challenge” the two teams of two have to name three terms on a specific topic within five seconds. After confident and very quick answers at the start, Sarai Linder fails to list three capitals. She says: “Berlin, Bremen,” but then begins to hesitate and adds “Bayern” to the laughter of the others.

For a moment there is confusion as to whether these should be state capitals in Germany or the world. But relatively quickly it becomes clear to everyone that Bavaria is wrong in every respect and big laughter breaks out again.

There is similarly great joy that Bayern star Giulia Gwinn cannot name three opponents in her Nations League group within five seconds. She can only think of Iceland and Denmark, much to the delight of Linda Dallmann and Janina Minge. Embarrassed, Gwinn asks the camera: “Can we skip this?”

DFB women cause confusion and laughter with answers

But their opponents Linda Dallmann and Janina Minge also caused confused faces with their answers. Minge, from Freiburg, points out that “artichokes, mushrooms and garlic” don’t belong on a pizza and receives confused looks from everyone else. “I just listed three things,” she explains her answer.

Linda Dallmann then fails to list three characters from Harry Potter. “Hermione, Harry and Potter and the creep,” she says with a grin. She calls this “disgusting creature” “Gondolf” and again triggers loud laughter from the other three. For Giulia Gwinn, this raises the question of who that should be.

Gwinn speculates that Dallmann could mean Gollum. “What was the name of that thing that was always sitting in the closet?” asks Dallmann. So it quickly becomes clear to Gwinn that she meant Dobby.
