Liverpool news: Reds icon retired at 31 to to focus on tattoos and sewage | Football | Sport

Liverpool legend Daniel Agger turned his nose up at traditional post-retirement plans when calling time on his playing days. While many of his former team-mates have transitioned to punditry or coaching, the Dane poured his heart into tattoos and sewage instead.

Agger spent the prime years of his career at Anfield, making just shy of 250 appearances for the Reds. Adored by fans for his no-nonsense approach, the centre-back bookended his career with spells at Brondby and retired in 2016.

Although the Liverpool hero, who was just 31 at the time, may have had plenty left to offer in professional football, he decided to commit his time and resources into honing his tattooing skills and investing in a sewage company.

After hanging up his boots, Agger trained to be a tattoo artist and subsequently joined world-renowned parlour Tattoodo.

According to The Sun, he also ploughed £450,000 into sewage company KloAgger, which translates to ‘Agger Toilet’. Agger’s younger brother, Marcus, is believed to be active in overseeing the company’s day-to-day operations.

The 38-year-old’s inked-up appearance set him apart from many other Premier League footballers when he was wowing crowds at Anfield. “I was about 15 and on a school trip to Paris [when I got my first tattoo],” he told the Tattoodo website.

“[There were] a lot of rumours sending me to another club for a lot of money but I knew I was staying,” he explained. “Somehow I wanted to show that to the footballing world and this was the way I wanted to show it.”

Five years after retiring, Agger tried his hand at a more traditional career path for an ex-footballer, as he spent two years in charge of Danish club HB Koge.
