Joe Root produced a superb one-handed catch to remove Marnus Labuschagne on nine during the second day of the fifth Ashes Test.

Root was forced to dive to get the ball, but kept his balance and composure to grab it out of thin air and give Australia a score of 91-2 during their first innings.

England secured 283 from their own innings on the opening day before sending Australia out to bat, and the visitors looked to be holding firm before the losses of David Warner and then Labuschagne.

Sky Sports Cricket shared footage of the stunning dive on Twitter, with the caption: ‘WHAT A CATCH, JOE ROOT’.

Mark Wood bowled on a good length and angled in from outside off. Labuschagne hits it into the gap between the wicketkeeeper and the first slip, but Root is available to catch it, to the jubilation of his England teammates.
