Despite the nine-euro ticket: no Whitsun chaos on Sylt | NDR.de – News

The first real stress test on Saturday for the nine-euro ticket: buses and trains were already full due to the excursion traffic over Pentecost. Now more passengers were added, who took advantage of the favorable opportunity to come to the island.

For days there has been a fuss about the question of whether Sylt can cope with the onslaught of the nine-euro ticket at Pentecost. The answer: so far yes. As expected, the regional trains to Sylt around midday were full, but not completely overcrowded. Some of those who searched could even find a seat. The passengers were tourists, ordinary day trippers and commuters.

Groups party downtown

In between there were also a few beer-drinking and bawling groups, which then moved towards the beach in Westerland. A camp had formed in the pedestrian zone, with around 50 people, some of whom were very drunk. Business owners and some tourists are annoyed. But there was no great chaos, says Karl-Max Hellner from the Sylt entrepreneurs, who runs a fashion shop in Westerland: “It has remained very quiet. Of course we are happy about it. And we are happy about every guest who comes to the Island is coming. Some forces have been deployed – that is, pilots and mediators. I think it has worked quite well so far. We hope that things will remain peaceful.”

The police also emphasized that the situation on Sylt was calm. There were no major operations on Saturday night either. A group of 50 to 80 punks who have been on the island for a few days would have been “a little loud,” but that’s nothing special either.

Beach chairs on the Baltic Sea are still available

The situation on Pentecost Saturday was also relaxed on the Baltic Sea in the Bay of Lübeck. Numerous vacationers and day visitors enjoyed the sun and the beach. An employee of the tourist information center in Niendorfer Hafen summarized the situation as full, but not overcrowded. More people would have come than on Ascension Day, but the weather wasn’t that nice either. Promenades and cafés were well frequented at lunchtime, but the relaxed situation was evident on the beaches – there were still enough beach chairs.

Many North and Baltic Sea resorts are extremely well booked over the holidays. But there are still simple accommodations for spontaneous short vacationers. more
