The England international has long been linked with a departure from the Hammers and has had plenty of prospects in recent months – notably Chelsea.
90 mins revealed in June that one of Todd Boehly’s first acts was to speak to West Ham about Rice. However, the billionaire who owns the Blues was brushed off and told the 23-year-old was not for sale.
Although West Ham repelled the overture in the summer, Boehly and Chelsea officials remain big fans of Rice. Boehly wants to attract the world’s best young players to the club – an attitude underscored by a desire to sign Leipzig stars Christopher Nkunku and Josko Gvardiol early on.
West Ham have focused this summer on building a side capable of competing for the top six on a regular basis. The Hammers have invested a lot of money in players like Gianluca Scamacca and Lucas Paqueta.
However, West Ham’s optimism in the summer was dampened by a disappointing start to the season and their poor league standing will do little to convince Rice that he can pursue his title-winning ambitions with the club.
As 90 mins Rice believes he will give the club the go-ahead next summer to further his career – Chelsea are considered favorites to transfer. But Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United have also spoken to West Ham about Rice and expressed their interest.
