Three slogans: “industrial sovereignty, full employment and decarbonization”. Emmanuel Macron announced on Monday in Toulouse new areas of development for France 2030, an investment plan dedicated to innovation, two years after its launch.
Simplification of investments
“If we want to win this battle of innovation, we must go even faster and stronger,” he added. He notably promised, “from the start of next year”, “very concrete” government measures in favor of a “drastic simplification” of procedures.
They also plead for a public purchasing policy which favors, when possible, innovative “local” solutions even if they are less attractive from a “budgetary” point of view. He urged the private sector to “redouble its risk-taking”.
New projects serving old ones
Emmanuel Macron also added several projects which will also be the subject of France 2030 funding. In particular nuclear fusion, whose technological advances will be used to develop small modular nuclear reactors (SMR), for which eight projects are already benefiting funding for France 2030.
In the field of health, eight biomedicines have already been developed out of the twenty ambitions. The president also presented a roadmap for fundamental research through the use of algorithms and artificial intelligence (AI).
Decarbonization at all costs
On the aviation and space side, Emmanuel Macron is pleased to have seen the emergence of small space rocket projects, and to have enabled the financing of research aimed at developing a low-carbon aircraft. In this continuity and with the objective of a global decarbonization plan, the president announced the launch of “exploration missions” of natural hydrogen reservoirs throughout the territory.
An alternative on which the head of state is counting is the development of carbon capture and storage technologies. The objective is to decarbonize, by 2030, 10% of incompressible industrial emissions, or 8 million tonnes of CO2, through carbon capture techniques.
To infinity and beyond !
But in the space domain, Emmanuel Macron aims even further. And the goal is ambitious. Emmanuel Macron says he wants to support the development of a cargo ship, a step considered essential to consider one day embarking on manned flights.
To follow this long roadmap and support these various projects, the president is also asking metropolises, cities and regions to “work much better” with the State on major industrial projects, by “preparing” them rather than by “reacting” to it.
