Crooks, no electricity… Brittany still hurt

It tasted less with the storm Domingos which hit further south. But she still hasn’t managed to completely recover from Ciaran’s passing. Since the night from Wednesday to Thursday, Brittany has been plagued by violent winds and heavy rainfall. Injured in multiple places, the region now has to deal with thousands of trees lying on roads, houses or railway tracks and has even been the scene of the death of an Enedis agent. This Sunday morning, tens of thousands of homes were still without electricity, most for the fourth day in a row. Significant damage which will continue to disrupt the lives of certain residents this week.

Still no electricity here and there

Mourning by the death of a 46-year-old technician during an intervention in Pont-Aven on Saturday evening, the Enedis company is continuing its efforts to try to restore power. At 10 a.m. this Sunday, 112,000 Breton homes were still without electricity, some for the fourth consecutive day.

In Rostrenen (Finistère), the mayor announced that some residents still did not have power and that his municipality was going to open changing rooms again on Sunday and Monday to allow people to shower and recharge their electronic devices. The mayor of Paimpol expressed the same solidarity. Saturday evening, 15 municipalities in Finistère were still completely without power.

Scammers are trying to take advantage of the situation

The Finistère gendarmerie launched the alert this Sunday. Warned by several residents of the increase in door-to-door canvassing among affected people, the police called on the population to be vigilant.

Bad actors have been reported offering roof pruning or roof repair services for a fee. The gendarmes invite those contacted not to follow up on these proposals and to notify the 17th in case of doubt.

Seven high schools will remain closed

Of the 115 public high schools in the Brittany region, seven establishments will not be able to welcome students this Monday, November 6. The most problematic situation concerns the Jules Lesven high school in Brest, which will remain closed all week. In the city of Ponant, the Harteloire high school will also remain closed Monday and Tuesday, as will the Jean-Moulin high school in Châteaulin and the Brizeux high school in Quimper. The others should only remain closed on Monday.

Rail links still disrupted

SNCF teams have been on the bridge since Thursday to try to clear the railway tracks often littered with trees or branches. This Sunday, the majority of the Breton network could have been restored but there still remained significant difficulties. The lines between Quimper and Brest, Carhaix and Guingamp, Paimpol and Guingamp but also between Plouaret and Lannion were still busy on Sunday morning. The connection between Brest and Guingamp was still awaiting restoration of the electricity network on Saturday evening. As the SNCF did not find an available coach operator, no replacement offer was offered this Sunday.
