In the Netherlands, the police arrested a man who is said to have been involved in blowing up ATMs in Germany. He tried in vain to escape from the officers.

The Dutch Police have arrested a man who is said to have been involved in blowing up several ATMs in Germany. Officials discovered the suspect on the way to the police station on the balcony of his apartment in Utrecht on Saturday, the local police said on Sunday. He had previously stayed “under the radar” of investigators for two years.

The suspect tried in vain to escape through a window when officers rang the doorbell, it said. He ran straight into the arms of the police officers waiting there. The man is to be handed over to the police in Germany. It was not disclosed in which automatic explosions he was allegedly involved.

In recent years, hundreds of ATMs have been blown up in Germany and large sums of cash have been stolen. According to the Federal Criminal Police Office, many of the alleged perpetrators came from the Netherlands.
