He held them under his control for hours – but the hostages of Ede do not know their tormentor. Why did the stranger storm the bar? The victims demand answers.

Two days after hostage crisis in Ede, the Netherlands, the motive of the alleged perpetrator remains unclear. Today the four hostages released a statement. For them it was “an unknown man,” the employees of the affected pub wrote about the hostage-taker who has now been arrested. The investigation must now “bring the truth to light.”

The man threatened the four employees with knives and took them hostage early on Saturday morning in the small town near the German border. They were released after a good seven hours. Then the man surrendered. The 28-year-old man is scheduled to appear before a judge on Tuesday.

The team of employees had jointly released the statement: “We are relieved that we can deal with this disgusting morning together, with each other,” they wrote. But they also call on people not to spread rumors about what happened on social media.
