In a cyber attack, the party email addresses of former Green Party chairmen Robert Habeck and Annalena Baerbock were also affected. Where are the cyber attacks coming from?

Cyber attacks on the Greens’ IT systems also affected the party email addresses of the two former chairmen, Robert Habeck and Annalena Baerbock.

This was reported by the “Spiegel”. A Greens spokeswoman confirmed this on Saturday. However, the accounts were no longer actively used. Economics Minister Habeck and Foreign Minister Baerbock have not been party leaders since January.

As the “Spiegel” reported, the investigations into the background of the cyber attack lead to Russia. Both the targeted actions of the attackers and technical details led the security authorities to assess that the hackers could have a Russian background.

The Greens have been attacked by hackers several times in the past few weeks, as a spokeswoman confirmed on Thursday. As a result, access to the “Green Network”, an internal party platform, has only been available to a limited extent since June 13. The hitherto unknown attackers succeeded in penetrating the party e-mail accounts of the new Green Party chairmen Ricarda Lang and Omid Nouripour and in some cases forwarding e-mails to external servers. There had already been an attack on the party’s IT system on May 30, after which the party filed a complaint.

As the “Spiegel” now wrote, the Berlin public prosecutor’s office has initiated an investigation into the spying out of data and data modification. In addition to the State Criminal Police Office, the Federal Criminal Police Office is also involved in the investigation.
