Severe thunderstorms expected in parts of Bavaria – Bavaria

The last days of May will bring wet weather to Bavaria. The German Weather Service (DWD) is also expecting severe thunderstorms from Monday evening into the night, which are expected to move from Swabia through Upper Bavaria to Lower Bavaria and the Upper Palatinate. Until the middle of the week, the weather will be changeable with rain, sun and clouds. According to meteorologists, warm and very humid air reaching the Free State will cause the first thunderstorms from Monday afternoon.

Heavy rain with amounts of up to 20 liters per square meter in one hour, hail and gusts of up to 60 kilometers per hour are also to be expected. Local storms are likely due to the heavy rain. The severe thunderstorms expected from the evening onwards are expected to bring rainfall amounts of between 20 and 40, and locally up to 50 liters per square meter in a short space of time. Hailstones of up to 3 centimeters and heavy gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour cannot be ruled out.

According to the DWD forecast, Tuesday will start wet in the eastern low mountain ranges and near the Alps, and from the afternoon onwards the rain will subside on the eastern edge of the Alps and in the Bavarian Forest. Elsewhere, a mix of sun and clouds and isolated showers are to be expected. The thermometer shows between 15 and 20 degrees. Sunny periods are to be expected in southeast Bavaria on Wednesday morning, but some rain is to be expected in western Franconia. As the day progresses, the rain will move eastwards, and showers and local thunderstorms are possible from Lower Franconia to Swabia. Temperatures will be between 18 and 23 degrees.
