Buried in playgrounds, disguised as chocolate: the country is literally contaminated with landmines. How Ukrainian children are learning in a course how to protect themselves from this deadly danger.

Wanja Kosenko is only ten years old, but he has already had some experience with landmines. This is nothing unusual for a child from the town of Primorsk in the Russian-occupied part of the Zaporizhzhia region. After all, up to a third of Ukraine is contaminated with mines – this is what a report by the non-governmental organization Human Rights Watch says, and this is confirmed by the government in Kiev. Since the Russian invasion, Ukraine is probably the country with the highest density of landmines in the world.
