Dolly Parton’s change of heart: If the singer were offered a place in the “Rock & Roll Hall of Fame”, she would “politely” accept. Before that, she had another opinion.

Change of heart for country icon Dolly Parton: In March, the “Jolene” singer wanted to retire from the race for a place in the “Rock & Roll Hall of Fame”, but now she would not turn down the honor.

She would accept the seat “politely” because fans were also involved in voting, Parton (76) said on Friday in an interview with US radio station NPR. She would have learned by now that this honor is not only for rock musicians. After all, she never saw herself as a rock singer, the country legend continued.

17 nominations for «Rock & Roll Hall of Fame»

The Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio, announced a total of 17 nominations for this year in February. In addition to Parton, Eminem, Beck, Lionel Richie, Carly Simon and the bands Duran Duran, Judas Priest and Rage Against The Machine were named as contenders.

She was very flattered but didn’t feel she deserved the right, Parton said in March. She would “retire respectfully”. Shortly thereafter, the Hall of Fame announced that Parton would remain eligible, as ballots had already been sent to the 1,100 eligible voters. The foundation wrote that rock & roll had “deep roots in rythm & blues as well as in country music”.

In addition to the voices of artists and music experts, those of fans are also included in the vote. In May, the decision will be made as to which of the 17 nominees will be included in the museum. The condition for participation is that the release of the first album must have been at least 25 years ago.
