In the event of loss of earnings due to corona quarantine, the state has so far stepped in for the first time. That could change soon for the unvaccinated: Tomorrow the federal and state health ministers want to advise on a uniform line.
In the Corona crisis, an end to compensation for loss of earnings due to ordered quarantine for unvaccinated people is under discussion from October 11 at the latest. This emerges from a draft for deliberations by the federal and state health ministers, which was first reported by the “Handelsblatt”. According to information from the dpa news agency, this draft has not yet been finalized between the federal and state governments.
The health ministers want to discuss a nationwide uniform line tomorrow. In the first countries, non-vaccinated people will soon no longer be entitled to compensation for loss of earnings. The Federal Infection Protection Act already provides for this if isolation could have been avoided by taking a recommended vaccination.
Spahn supports the cancellation of the wage replacement
Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn had basically shown sympathy for such a line. However, the handling lies with the countries. Specifically, it is about compensation for loss of earnings by the state in the event of quarantine, for example if you were the contact person for infected people. Regardless of this, employees have the right to continued payment of wages by their employer in the event of illness, i.e. if they have been infected with Corona.
The social association VdK rejects the plans to no longer pay unvaccinated people in corona quarantine. “The loss of earnings has to be paid in a quarantine regardless of the vaccination status,” said VdK President Verena Bentele. She appeals to the health ministers of the federal states to find a uniform regulation in their deliberations.
Compulsory testing for unvaccinated people in certain industries
There is rightly no general compulsory vaccination, so Bentele. In that case, however, it should not have any consequences that threaten the existence of a person if a person in poor health decides against a vaccination due to a chronic illness. “If half a month’s earnings are lost because of a quarantine, poorer people in particular will suffer disproportionately,” said Bentele.
According to “Handelsblatt”, the federal and state governments also want to advise on compulsory testing for unvaccinated employees and self-employed people in certain industries. In view of the infection situation, the rule should be introduced where employees come into direct contact with “external persons”.
