Corona pandemic: STIKO recommends vaccination for everyone aged 12 and over

Status: 08/16/2021 11:40 a.m.

The Standing Vaccination Commission now recommends vaccination against the coronavirus for 12 to 17 year olds. In June, the committee had only recommended vaccination for previously ill children and adolescents.

The Standing Vaccination Commission (STIKO) is in favor of corona vaccinations for all children and adolescents from the age of twelve. After careful evaluation of new scientific observations and data, the assessment came to the conclusion that “according to the current state of knowledge, the advantages of vaccination outweigh the risk of very rare vaccine side effects”, announced the panel and referred to a draft resolution.

The STIKO thus updated its previous recommendation from the beginning of June, according to which only young people with previous illnesses should initially be vaccinated against the coronavirus in Germany.

The official recommendation text is not yet available, changes are possible.
