Distance teaching, hybrid or face-to-face, but with masks and tests: Schoolchildren have already taken part in several phases of infection protection in schools. What will happen to you after the holidays?

Before the Standing Conference (KMK) on the Corona situation in schools this Wednesday, KMK President Karin Prien (CDU) warned against further school closings.

“We have to be clear: For children and young people, school closings mean massive restrictions on their development opportunities, their learning opportunities and their equal opportunities. We can’t go on like this, and that is also reflected in the current version of the Infection Protection Act, ”she said on the phoenix broadcaster.

Aimed at face-to-face teaching

The Schleswig-Holstein Minister of Education took over the KMK presidency at the turn of the year. With regard to the Omicron variant, she said there was no indication that it was more dangerous for school children than the Delta variant. “In this respect, I believe we now have to reopen the schools responsibly, under strict hygiene measures, but still in regular operation.”

Prien and her colleagues from the federal states will be discussing how to proceed in schools this Wednesday in a video link. In the middle of the week, half of the federal states are back in class after the Christmas break. The other half starts in the coming week. The aim is to have face-to-face teaching everywhere. Because of the feared sharp increase in the number of infections due to the Omikron variant, the possibility of distance or alternating instruction was recently discussed again. Thuringia wanted to start the new year with distance learning, but then withdrew the plan at short notice.
