In Schleswig-Holstein, 862 new corona cases were reported within 24 hours (as of December 31). The seven-day incidence is 224 (previous day: 209.3).
The number of people in Schleswig-Holstein who has been proven to have been infected with the coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic is now 120,035. According to an estimate by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), around 107,300 Schleswig-Holsteiners are considered recovered. According to the current State registration office statistics Another death was reported in connection with the viral disease Covid-19. The total number is 1,885. Due to the holidays, however, the numbers are not entirely reliable, as three health authorities have not reported their data.
Hospitalization rate in SH is stagnating
According to the current data, the hospitalization rate, which plays an important role in assessing the corona situation for the health system, is 2.4 – as on the previous day. The value indicates the number of hospitalized Covid-19 cases among the cases reported in the past seven days based on 100,000 people.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) usually updates its data in the morning, but sometimes not until the afternoon – the national figures are usually published the evening before. Due to the delay in reporting, the RKI values generally do not correspond to the infection rate, but are too low. As a second number, we therefore give an estimate of how high the seven-day incidence could be without delay in reporting. This value comes closer to the actual development of the pandemic. District of Dithmarschen with the highest incidence
The highest incidence is in the Dithmarschen district with a value of 514.8 (previous day: 416.5). A week ago the value for Dithmarschen was 129.8. It follows Kiel with 307 (previous day: 251.8) and Flensburg with 290.2 (previous day: 226.8). The lowest values are in the city of Lübeck with 120.5 (previous day: 102.9) and in the Schleswig-Flensburg district with 131.3 (previous day: 127.3). The health authorities have not provided any current figures in three districts: Stormarn, Rendsburg-Eckernförde and Ostholstein.

People in Schleswig-Holstein have been vaccinated against the coronavirus since December 27, 2020. The vaccination quota shows what percentage of northern Germans have already received the first vaccination dose.

163 people (+/- 0) who have tested positive for Corona are currently being treated in the country’s hospitals. 46 Covid patients are in intensive therapy (+/- 0), 28 of them have to be ventilated (+/- 0).
The map shows the occupancy of the North German intensive care units. The darker it is colored, the higher the proportion of Covid 19 patients. The map also shows that some intensive care units are already busy even without corona cases.
What these numbers say – and what not
The state government’s statistics show how many confirmed corona infections are known to the authorities in the country and were reported via the intended route. What the statistics cannot clearly show, let alone the current day, is the speed at which the virus is spreading. Because the number of people who have newly tested positive usually also includes post-reported cases from several days. There are delays in the reporting chain, especially around weekends and public holidays.
