How well do rapid tests still work at Omikron? The question arose shortly after the discovery of the new variant. At the beginning of January, the Federal Ministry of Health therefore commissioned the Paul Ehrlich Institute (PEI) to check the tests for their omicron capabilities. Two and a half months later, the results are in. The conclusion of the authorities: no problem at all. “We have no indication of a reduced sensitivity of antigen tests with regard to omicrons,” said Micha Nübling, scientist at the PEI, during a press conference on Thursday.
