Colorful cables, “Ultra” rumor revived: news about the iPhone 15

The Apple blog AppleInsider revives speculation from last year that Apple will name its top model “iPhone 15 Ultra” – this would mean that the long-standing designation “Pro Max” would drop out of the program. He learned from “several sources” that the big Pro phone from Apple will bear the designation, according to author Andrew O’Hara. “It was an early rumor that was later retracted.”

The original idea behind the name is said to have been that Apple is further diversifying its model range – which could also be accompanied by a price increase. There are reports that the top model has some functions that the “normal” Pro model lacks – and not just in terms of screen size. Currently, the only difference between the Pro and the Pro Max is the display diagonal: This differs by 0.6 inches (1.52 cm). Now only the “iPhone 15 Ultra” could get a new type of periscope lens that enables a sixfold optical zoom.

A second rumor, also coming from US media (as well as from Apple’s Asian supply chain), concerns the cables that come with the iPhone 15. Here, Macrumors reports that each of the new smartphones receive a colour-coordinated USB-C charging strip becomes. It is largely agreed that the iPhone 15 will finally do away with the proprietary Lightning interface – also under pressure from the EU. Apple is said to be using this as an opportunity to customize the cables.

That wouldn’t be new, as the group has long been supplying the iMac M1 with USB-C charging cables for the keyboard and mouse/trackpad in matching colours. With the iPhone, that would be an additional gimmick. The lighter colors each have white plugs, the black version of the cable has black ports. circulating in China Footage showing five variants of one of the USB-C to USB-C cables. Apparently every color of the iPhone 15 should be covered.
