Cocktail bar Peaches in Neuhausen in the test: jumbo drinks on red leather benches – Munich

The sisters Margrit (65) and Renate (68) came to “Peaches” to toast “the old days”. One now lives in Berlin, one in Bogenhausen – they can still agree on Peaches. The two of them were guests here for the first time 30 years ago. Walter Ullmer (62), operator of the restaurant on Donnersbergerstrasse, has been behind the counter even longer, since it opened 34 years ago – Peaches and its owner have seen other restaurants come and go during this time.

At its peak, there were seven branches of the franchise chain, says Ullmer, but there are now three left: in Augsburg, in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and his branch on Donnersbergerbrücke. You still pay a small amount to the franchisor in America, otherwise the chain concept is a relic of the past. The way Peaches is located on Donnersbergerstrasse today is unique.

25-year-old René has been coming to Ullmer’s bar since he turned 16; this is where he drank his first legal beer, he says. For him, Peaches is one of the few authentic shops in Munich, but still not a booze. When you look through the restaurant, it becomes clear what he means: It’s neither traditional nor Bavarian in style, but you certainly won’t find the chic crowd at Peaches either. He also comes back again and again because of the pizza, the dough is homemade and the prices start at 9.90 euros and are fair.

In addition to the cocktails, the pizzas also attract one or two visitors to the restaurant.

“Girls just want to have fun” sounds muffled from the speakers as the first jumbo cocktail of the evening is served. Although the song is a strangely fitting accompaniment to the enormous cocktail with the colorful straws, the choice of music otherwise seems to come from chance. From Kesha’s “Tik Tok” to Springsteen’s “Born in the USA” to Cindy Lauper’s feminist anthem, the playlist caters to a range of tastes.

If you look closely, you’ll discover the signs of the times in Peaches: slightly worn benches made of red leather, a panoramic picture of Manhattan on the wall, taken before the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. The restaurant and the drinks menu seem to have remained the same over the years to have stayed. The classics on the cocktail list range from the “Mai Tai” (8.90 euros) to our own creations such as the “Mexican Flip” with cocoa and coconut cream (8.90 euros) to the “Sex on the Beach” in the 2.5th -liter bucket (37.90 euros).

Perhaps the secret of the restaurant lies in this stability? On Thursday evening at 7 p.m. it is definitely full – almost all tables were reserved in advance. The shop is running.
