Club of 6th division, Olympique Strasbourg signs a feat against Clermont, team of Ligue 1

There will be a Strasbourg club in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France. But it will not be Racing, the flag of the Alsatian capital in bad shape in Ligue 1, eliminated Friday night by Angers, bottom of the elite (0-0, 4-5 on penalties). Olympique Strasbourg, on the other hand, qualified this Saturday by eliminating Clermont, 9th in Ligue 1, also on penalties after a goalless draw (0-0, 4-3 on pens). The meeting took place in front of 3,000 people who had filled the Emile-Stahl stadium.

A huge feat for one of the competition’s Petits Poucets, which plays in Regional 1 (sixth division), and is in fact called Football Club Olympique Strasbourg Koenigshoffen 06 (FCOSK 06 for short), born from the merger in 2020 of two amateur clubs: Olympique Strasbourg and FC Strasbourg Koenigshoffen 1906.

Three other Regional 1 clubs in these 32nd finals

Three other Regional 1 teams are involved in these round of 32: Villerupt, opposed to Annecy (L2) this Saturday from 6 p.m., but also The Chestnut GroveLoon-Plage and Stade Pontivyen, which will host Lorient (L1), Reims (L1) and Les Herbiers (N2, fourth division) respectively on Sunday.
