Climate protests for breaking the law: is “civil disobedience” allowed? – Culture

The climate goals that Germany will miss are applicable law – but the federal government is ignoring its obligations. However, violations of the law in protest are not permitted. So far.

The climate activists from all over Germany, who want to “paralyze” Berlin these days, differ from many other demonstrators in a way that is very interesting for the rule of law. They are not simply protesting that their personal political opinions are not being heard. Or that the federal government, from their point of view, governs badly or produces bad laws, which is always a matter of opinion. That would be commonplace. Rather, these activists are protesting that the government is violating the law, the binding force of which can hardly be argued away.
