A survivor of the Auschwitz camp where he was interned as a teenager, Claude Bloch from Lyon died at the age of 95, the mayor of Lyon Grégory Doucet announced on the night of Sunday to Monday on the social network X.
“It is with deep sadness that I learned this evening of the death of Claude Bloch. A survivor of Auschwitz, he was a transmitter of memory to younger generations throughout his life,” wrote the elected official, sending his “most sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.”
Tribute from Emmanuel Macron
At the beginning of May, Claude Bloch, the last Auschwitz survivor living in Lyon, took part in the tribute to Jean Moulin paid at Montluc prison by Emmanuel Macron. The President of the Republic also paid tribute to him on X.
“Claude Bloch carried within him the tear of History. All his life, he was a transmitter of the memory of the Shoah. It is up to all of us to continue to transmit it,” wrote Emmanuel Macron.
