The residents of the Christmas house in Delmenhorst have received a threatening letter. In it they are asked to switch off the lighting with 60,000 lights by Monday. Otherwise it will be destroyed.

The reason given for the threat in the letter is the energy crisis and the need to save energy. The authors speak of “light pollution” and “wasted electricity” from the Christmas lights. If it is not removed, the “e-waste” would be switched off and disposed of in a nightly operation, they say.

“Last generation” denies involvement

The letter, which came in the mail and was postmarked in Bremen, is said to have been signed by the “Last Generation” environmental movement. However, their federal spokeswoman Carla Hinrichs rejected the group’s participation. The letter did not come from the climate activists, she emphasized. Actions are aimed at the federal government, private individuals are left alone.

Reported for threatening letter

Martina Borchart, who has been running the Christmas house for many years, was shocked. She and her husband filed a complaint with the police. Officials have launched a case of attempted coercion. In addition, the Christmas house should be included in the control drives of the patrol service in the future.

The operator of the Christmas house does not want to give in

The family does not want to respond to the request under any circumstances. “We won’t let that get us down,” said Martina Borchart. Finally, the campaign would also collect donations for a good cause. In addition, they only switched all the lighting to more environmentally friendly LED lamps this year.
