After the ceasefire expired, Israel resumed the fight against Hamas. The Israeli military announced this in the morning. It accused Hamas of violating the ceasefire.

The ceasefire agreed in the war between Israel and the terrorist organization Hamas for the Gaza Strip expired this morning. The Israeli army said it resumed fighting in the area. It is unclear whether there will be negotiations for a new ceasefire.

Shortly before the end of the deadline, Israel’s military announced that it had intercepted a rocket from the Gaza Strip. “Hamas broke the ceasefire agreement and also fired rockets into Israeli territory,” it said on Platform X. Hamas initially did not comment on this.

Conflict parties as a source

In the current situation, information on the course of the war, shelling and casualties provided by the Palestinian and Israeli conflict parties cannot be directly verified by an independent body.

The army said it was attacking Hamas positions in Gaza from the air. The Arabic television channel Al Jazeera reported heavy fighting in the city of Gaza and other areas in the north of the Gaza Strip, citing eyewitnesses.

More than 100 hostages released

Both sides, through the mediation of Qatar, Egypt and the USA, agreed to a ceasefire a week ago, which has since been extended twice – most recently by one day. The agreement allowed for the exchange of Hamas hostages for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli custody and accelerated aid deliveries to the Gaza Strip.

In total, more than 100 hostages who had been kidnapped in the Gaza Strip were released, including 14 Israelis with German citizenship. In return, Israel released more than 200 Palestinian prisoners from prison. According to the Times of Israel, the government suspects that there are still around 140 hostages in the Gaza Strip. However, there are said to be only a few women and children among them.

Assassination attempt in Jerusalem

Recently, criticism of the ceasefire in Israel had grown. After an attack at a bus stop in Jerusalem that Hamas claimed responsibility for and in which three people were killed and others injured, Israel’s right-wing extremist Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir called for an end to the ceasefire. “With one hand Hamas signs a ceasefire, and with another hand it sends terrorists to murder Jews in Jerusalem,” the minister wrote on Platform X.
