The specialized site LSA revealed, this Monday, January 22, the list of Casino stores taken over by Intermarché and Auchan. The landscape of hypermarkets and supermarkets will change in Aude and the Pyrénées-Orientales.
The takeover of Casino by Intermarché and Auchan is expected to considerably change the country’s commercial landscape. And our departments of Aude and Pyrénées-Orientales will be impacted while Intermarché is already well present but Auchan only has one store, the hypermarket on the Route d’Espagne in Perpignan.
As a reminder, in mid-December, Auchan and Intermarché entered into exclusive negotiations with Casino for the sale of 313 stores. In these negotiations, it was planned that Intermarché would take over two thirds of the points of sale, with the remaining third going to Auchan.
No competition in the same catchment area
It then remained for the two brands to distribute the businesses territorially, taking into account the opinions of the Competition Authority which asked to respect a certain logic in the same catchment area where it was out of the question to have two Intermarchés in the immediate vicinity. .
Near Perpignan, it was in Latour-bas-Elne that the decision had to be made, the Casino supermarket being located just opposite an Intermarché. Finally, according to the specialized LSA siteit is indeed Auchan which will settle in place of the Latour-bas-Elne Casino.
The other Casino des Pyrénées-Orientales stores, in Canet, avenue Mercader in Perpignan and in Bolquère, will come under the Intermarché flag.
In Aude, the two Casino hypermarkets in Narbonne and Carcassonne will become Auchan stores. The northern brand will therefore establish itself for the first time in the department with, in addition, a supermarket near Sallèles-d’Aude.
As a reminder, the choice of the takeover of Casino by Auchan and Intermarché was essentially motivated by the maintenance of 16,000 jobs, the two brands having been strongly committed to this.
