The manufacturer Babboe has to stop selling its cargo bikes. The reason for this is serious safety deficiencies, said the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA). Reported first star and Mirror about the sales ban.

Since the end of last year there have been increasing indications of several frame breaks on cargo bikes, reported star. This is a potentially life-threatening safety risk. According to the Dutch authorities, Babboe did not investigate the defect as required by law. The company said it had neither conducted its own investigations nor informed the responsible authorities NVWA with. The authority is also examining criminal investigations against those responsible.

Babboe informed on its website about a sales stop for “all” cargo bikes in Germany too. There is not yet an official sales ban from the German authorities.
