Arrested a few moments later by BAC police officers, the individual was placed in police custody for “apology of terrorism and violence with weapons”, according to the Grasse public prosecutor Damien Savarzeix.
This intervention was welcomed by the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin on X this Wednesday evening. “In Cannes, the courageous BAC police officers have just arrested a very dangerous man, carrying a knife, who had wanted to attack an individual. Thanks to them: they avoided the worst,” posted the strong man from Place Beauvau.
The events took place 200 meters from a synagogue but “it is too early to indicate if there is any link”, according to Damien Savarzeix, who clarified that the investigation was only in its early stages. . He nevertheless added that the attacker was “a priori” a homeless man.
