Cabaret artist Prayon: Today’s show sets the mood against those who think differently – the media

The cabaret artist Christine Prayon has a collaboration with Oliver Welkes satirical show today’s show on ZDF, in which she has been seen as reporter “Birte Schneider” since 2011. She gave the reason in an interview with the weekly newspaper contextthat dissidents would be exposed to ridicule there. The 49-year-old says she no longer felt comfortable “with the way the major social issues have been dealt with since Corona”. She would also have spoken to those responsible about it. “Satire must not engage in narrowing the discourse.” But find that in the today’s show took place, also during the war in Ukraine. “Narratives and positions of groups that are high up in the social hierarchy are repeated incessantly and at the same time a mood is made against those who think differently,” says Prayon. It has nothing to do with satire.

The door was left open to her for further cooperation “if I should see it differently again or feel comfortable”. She thinks that’s nice too, but I’ve drawn a line for myself. She is no longer a fan of satirical programs at all, Prayon explains, and criticizes Jan Böhmermann: “He, too, has reinforced the usual narratives”. As an example, the cabaret artist cites a program in which Böhmermann showed two fingers to non-vaccinated people. “I thought, how can you do that?” According to Prayon, she suffers from symptoms that she does not know whether they come from corona disease or a vaccination.
