Nenad Bjelica knows exactly how the professionals at Union Berlin should play football. The new Köpenick coach is not afraid of the relegation battle.

Union Berlin’s new coach Nenad Bjelica has a clear footballing approach. “My teams play very intensively with a lot of pressing, with a lot of intensity. My teams are very unpleasant opponents for the opponents. We want to dominate,” said the 52-year-old Croatian during his introduction.

Bjelica gained experience as a coach in the top leagues in Austria, Poland, Croatia and Turkey. He played in the Champions League with Austria Vienna and Dinamo Zagreb. “I’m not a coach who needs 50 touches of the ball to finish. I’m more someone who wants to find the shortest route to the goal,” said Köpenick’s new hope about his playing philosophy.

After 15 games without a win, Bjelica first has to do some rebuilding work with the Iron Men. Starting work in the middle of a relegation battle is no problem for the Croatian. “My first two positions in my career were also relegation battles. I am completely confident in my work. I am very self-confident,” said the experienced coach about his character and promised “maximum effort.”
