In FC Bayern’s 8-0 win against Darmstadt, the focus is not only on Manuel Neuer’s comeback. The peat festival also offers some records.

Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel spoke of a “very extraordinary game”. FC Bayern Munich’s 8-0 win against Darmstadt 98 provided some material for the Bundesliga record books. A selection:

Three red cards: Bayern’s Joshua Kimmich and Darmstadt defenders Klaus Gjasula and Matej Maglica each received red cards in the first half of the game. This is a novelty in the Bundesliga. “The first half was bizarre,” commented Bayern captain Manuel Neuer on his first game after a long injury break.

Eight goals in 38 minutes

After a goalless first half, Bayern scored eight times in the second half, from 1-0 through Harry Kane to the final 8-0 with goal number three from the Englishman in 38 minutes. “It was fireworks in the second half,” enthused Bayern’s sporting director Christoph Freund. The Munich team was only the third team in Bundesliga history to score eight goals in one half. Only Borussia Dortmund (11-1 against Bielefeld in 1982) and Borussia Mönchengladbach (10-0 against Borussia Neunkirchen in 1967) had previously achieved this.

Record man Kane

A header, a falling goal and a spectacular long-range strike from over 50 meters – Harry Kane was the man of the game with his hat-trick despite Neuer’s comeback. The 30-year-old Englishman has scored twelve goals in his first nine Bundesliga games. No player has had such a start in 60 years of the Bundesliga.

Goal record

34 Bayern goals after nine match days are a Bundesliga record. The previous record was 33 goals, set by the Munich team in the 2021/22 season.
