Jamal Musiala was particularly depressed after the Munich Cup knockout. But the “clever boy” shows a “very positive reaction” to the delight of coach Thomas Tuchel. And not just him.

Jamal Musiala didn’t want to linger too long on his bad luck from the penalty spot in the cup. “He showed a very positive reaction,” said coach Thomas Tuchel about the young star of FC Bayern Munich. The 20-year-old caused the decisive hand penalty in injury time when he lost the quarter-finals of the cup against SC Freiburg.

“Sometimes it’s better not to pick it up 20 times and talk about it,” said Tuchel before the quick reunion with the Breisgauers on Saturday (3:30 p.m. / Sky) in the Bundesliga. Musiala, who was substituted on twice after torn a hamstring, could then be in the starting XI. “He’s absolutely ready to start,” said Tuchel. Ahead of the injured Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (10 goals), international Musiala is Bayern’s top scorer in the league with eleven goals.

Bayern wants to consolidate the lead in the table with a win

“He’s a smart boy. There were mistakes in the development before, a chain of things that we can do better. The situation is unfortunate,” said Tuchel in defense of the midfield artist. Musiala also felt the support of his teammates. “The cabin is tip top, everyone is ready to help immediately.” The Munich team want to consolidate their lead in the Bundesliga with a win.

After the conversation that a scene between Musiala and Freiburg coach Christian Streich had after the final whistle of the cup game, there is another exchange between the two.

Streich is happy to accept a jersey promised by Musiala. “I don’t collect jerseys, but every now and then I get one as a gift,” said the 57-year-old. He was also “almost a bit embarrassed” that he sometimes asked about it himself. “But I do that for the children – there are no jerseys in my bedroom,” emphasized Streich. Two or three would be in the closet with his bike gear. The SC trainer did not reveal whether the Musiala shirt would end up there or with his son or another child.
