2-0 in the cup against Dortmund, 1-1 in the Bundesliga against Leverkusen – now the next challenge for VfB Stuttgart is at FC Bayern. It’s a special game for the VfB coach.

For coach Sebastian Hoeneß the next top game is VfB Stuttgart at FC Bayern Munich next Sunday is a “nice” constellation.

“It’s a special game, not because we’re on their heels, but because I of course have a past in Munich and of course a certain connection,” said the son of Dieter Hoeneß and nephew of Bayern honorary president Uli Hoeneß on DAZN on Sunday after the Swabians’ 1:1 (1:0) draw against league leaders Bayer Leverkusen. “We’re looking forward to the game,” said Hoeneß, looking ahead: “Now we’re just trying to take on the next top team.”

Führich: “We will work hard”

Hoeneß has been coaching VfB since the beginning of April and has transformed the Swabians from almost relegated last season into a top Bundesliga team this season. Before his first Bundesliga position in Hoffenheim, he trained the Bayern amateurs and led them to first place in the 3rd league as promoted teams in the 2019/20 season. This week in particular, no cell phone messages will be exchanged with Bayern, said Hoeneß.

As third in the table, Stuttgart are currently only one point behind Munich, who have played one game less. “It will be a very, very difficult game for which we have to prepare very well. We will work hard,” announced VfB new international player Chris Führich.

The Munich team made a big mistake with a 5-1 defeat at Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday. They will want to do a few things right in the Champions League on Tuesday against Manchester United, said VfB sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth: “But they will also want to do a few things well in the Bundesliga.”
